Jungle is a collection of Portraits centered on the alienation of poverty, drug addiction, and homelessness.
All interviews were filmed handheld by me between the ages of 17 and 19 (2024–2026). I've noticed as people get older, their curiosity and empathy for those outside their own lives tends to narrow. I hope this project serves as a reminder of the things I once cared about.
I chose these seven interviews because they shaped me. During each conversation, I felt the person in front of me from the bottom of my heart. Sitting with this footage was emotionally challenging, but looking away is a privilege the people in it don't have.
Sharon, Tracy, Al, James, Tony, Nicole, Howard, and José stuck with me. I think about them every day.
All profits go to The Night Ministry, a Chicago organization providing food, shelter, health care, and human connection to people experiencing homelessness.
